WiMAX Development in Asia January 17-23

- Malaysian WiMAX carrier Packet One announced to invest 200 million ringgits (US$65.4 million; US$1=3.06 ringgits) in business expansion in 2011, according to a January 14, 2011 report by the Bernama. It is reported that Packet One aims to boost capacity and increase the company's broadband coverage in West Malaysia from the current 45% to 52%.

- Taiwanese Foxconn and Cheng Uei Precision Industry have successfully developed dual-mode GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications)/WiMAX Smartphones running on Android operating system, according to a January 19, 2011 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. It is reported that the Smartphones have been sent to WiMAX carriers for certification.
